Blog Comment Demon
Blog Comment Demon addresses another problem, in a similar vein to it’s sister software, Bookmarking Demon.
What it sets out to do is to fully automate the process of posting comments onto the pages of high page ranking blogs, in order to create more links, and therefore traffic, back to your site.
There are 3 main ways to obtain traffic, without resorting to blackhat methods which could get you and your site delisted from Google.
The first is the likes of Adwords and other paid links or adverts. These can be VERY effective, especially when targeted well with the appropriate keywords. The downside is that they can be very expensive and they are only useful for as long as you keep paying the bill.
The second is through a link exchange program. The idea is that you post a link from another site on your site, and they do the same for you. A great idea in theory, except Google’s algorithms now weight these link exchanges with a lot less gravity, so it can place your page rank at risk.
Finally, posting comments and text onto other forums and blogs. This is a very effective way of building up back links, from some very highly ranked sites, and also decreases the amount of time required to be indexed by the search engines. The problem again, which is the problem that Bookmarking Demon solves with social tagging, is that it is so time consuming.
Blog Comment Demon circumvents the issue by automatic posting and tracking of posting comments. It will automatically locate blogs related to specific keyword searches and post content to them.
Since most bloggers want comments but don’t want comment spam, they tend to enable Akismet or some other comment approval system. Blog Comment Demon has this awareness built in and tracks comment approval on your behalf.
It is packed with features such as blog page rank search, auto form filling, stats etc, and it really does do what it says on the tin.
The downside to this software is really in the arena of blog commenting in general. This is a great program. It works. The question is now “does blog commenting help in promoting my website”?
Here’s the problem. When blogging first started rising to prominence in the late 90′s/early 00′s, the web (and I mean web – not the internet) was younger and our computers were slower, not to mention our line speeds. Blog platforms added commenting and feedback systems to them, to allow readers and writers to interact. This is, after all, one of the main benefits of this technology: sharing.
At this time, you really only found spam in emails. But as line and computer speeds went up, we find that spammers got rather sophisticated, creating a whole bunch of automation tools, including those that post millions of blog comments very quickly. In fact, a bit like this product on review.
I’m not saying Blog Comment Demon is an uber-spam blackhat tool. Instead, think of it like a stick of dynamite. You could use it to blast your way through a large chunk of rock which is in your way in your garden, or you could blow yourself up along with lots of people. One of these could be useful, the other not-so-much.
But it is because of these tools that I am calling into question the process. WordPress changed all their link settings to no-follow by default. A couple of weeks back, yet another major CMS provider did the same. In the game of link relevancy, do you really think that a link to your blog in amongst a million others that say “buy viagra” or “ugg boots” is going to help your search rankings?
It is true, blog commenting isn’t as effective as it once was. But I would be a liar if I said it didn’t work. It does work. Why? Because there are people who still swear by Yahoo and the big Y don’t care about this nofollow nonsense in their ranks. And because both blog readers and writers will follow links if what you have said has interested them.
And that is, as far as I am concerned, the key. Add value. Say something useful, meaningful, even provocative, but make it relevant. Use it for what it was meant for, but use the automation tools to do it, and you may find yourself getting dofollow links from blogs that are all nofollow.
In terms of automation tools, Blog Comment Demon may be the little sister of the two compared to Bookmarking Demon, but it saves no less time in it’s area of speciality.
Use it wisely!
